NinerNET Account
Now that you've been accepted to UNC Charlotte, you are provided with a NinerNET account that consists of your User Name and password. Before you can login to University applications with your NinerNET account, you'll need to set up your password in PW Manager. Go to PW Manager, click First Time Users and follow the directions to set up your password for 49er Express, the Novell network, your University email and other University applications. Go to PW Manager anytime you need to reset or change your NinerNET password.
When you login to 49er Express with your NinerNET account, you get access to University email, course information, grades, registration, financial accounts and more. The University Novell network gives you access to various software applications and a high speed Internet connection in the computer labs or Atkins Library and 100MB of personal storage space on your H:\drive for files and web pages.
University Email
Your University email account is an official
method of communication at UNC Charlotte. Check your email by logging in to
49er Express with your
NinerNET account and clicking the email icon or get direct access at https://unccmail.uncc.edu. Faculty will use this email address to contact you electronically. Be sure to check your University email often.

Register for Classes
Login to 49er Express with your
NinerNET account to
register for classes. If you have
questions about registration visit the
Registrar's Office. Find out how to get help if you have problems logging in to 49er Express.
Open Computer Labs
Open computer labs are available in several locations on campus.
Barnard labs are open 24/7. Check the lab hours for Friday
and Fretwell labs and be aware of lab closings and outages.
In the labs, you can login to the
Novell network with your NinerNET account and get access to software applications, a high speed Internet connection and
100MB of storage space on your H:\ drive. Printing is also offered in
the labs.
Technical Assistants (TAs) are available to help with technical problems in Friday or Fretwell or you can visit
the Student Computing Help Center in Barnard.
e-Learning
The Center for Teaching and Learning is staffed with consultants who provide e-learning assistance to students as it
relates to their coursework.
The Center for Teaching and Learning hosts two student support websites - Blackboard Vista and
Student e-Learning. In addition, it provides online
Blackboard Demos & Guides and responds to help requests submitted by
students – Blackboard Vista Help Request and
e-Learning Help Request.
Do I Need a Computer?
Check out specific college recommendations first. Student Computing also provides computer guidelines for minimum hardware and software recommendations and information about
Internet access on campus. If you are considering purchasing a computer, you may want to visit the UNC Charlotte Dell & Apple online stores.
E-Training
Our web-based E-Training makes it easy to learn how to use software applications like PowerPoint,
Front Page and Dreamweaver. Access over 300 software courses and books online from an Internet connected computer.
Need a Job?
You don't have to be a computer whiz to become a Student Computing Technical Assistant. We're looking for friendly, outgoing people who like helping others. Read the

Follow these guidelines and you'll be on your way to guilt-free computing:
- Get virus protection for your computer. Download
Norton Antivirus.
- Are you downloading music? A
copyright violation can jeopardize your academic standing. Be responsible with electronic resources.
- Learn what not to share and practice good e-mail etiquette.
- Keep your passwords secure - they protect your personal information.
- Avoid the plagiarism trap!
Get Help
Students get technical assistance from the
Student Computing Help Center. Visit the Help Center in Barnard, call 704-687-6400 or submit your problem to the HelpDesk Online and a Technical Assistant will help.
Check the ITS Message Center for system alerts and the scheduled outages for additional information.
