What's the hiring status?
Student Computing is not currently hiring. The Student Computing Lab Manager may post job openings at any time, based on need.
Where's the application?
Print the application, complete all the information and turn your completed application in to a TA in Student Computing Help Center in Barnard.
What does a TA do?
TAs staff the open computer labs, which includes the
Barnard Student Computing Help
Center and the labs in Friday and Fretwell.
They assist students with technical problems using lab computers and accessing online services.
Will being a TA fit with my school schedule?
We will work around your school schedule; when you want to work is up to you. Employees'
academic benefit is a primary concern.
How hard is it to be hired?
Unfortunately, we can't hire everyone who applies. There are usually well over 100 applicants
every semester and each applicant is considered equally. If you do apply and do not get hired for that
semester, keep an eye on the hiring status and apply again.
What knowledge is required for this position?
You should have some familiarity with computers and the computer labs environment (Novell login, 49er Express, Microsoft Office). However, communication skills, attitude and work ethic are weighed more heavily
than technical knowledge.
Does my major affect my chances for employment?
Communication and interpersonal skills are considered above technical ability.
Working on a Master's in a technology field doesn't mean you're the perfect TA.
We try to employ students from many different majors in order to have as diverse a
staff as possible.
How often does hiring take place?
Usually, hiring occurs twice a year. However, employees graduate every semester,
so openings can be available at any time. Check the current hiring status on this page regularly.
